Artisan 50 Color Printer March 2, 2010 Digital Artist 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have used the Epson 8 color wide format R1800 printer for a number of years, and it did an outstanding job. For the time being I have no need for a printer of that quality, and when the R1800 needed repair I decided to replace it. I chose the Epson Artisan 50 printer which is a 6 color printer restricted to 8.5 inch width. I was attracted by the price, its simplicity, and yet it still has 6 individual color ink cartridges. To be honest I was skeptical. Since the price of the printer with 6 fresh ink cartridges is about the same as a set of replacement cartridges for the R1800, I decided to give it a shot.
I was amazed. The colors are a little more saturated, but then many people like that, it was a little slower printing full color at best quality, but I do not print enough full color for that to be a problem, and on comparing prints made on the old R1800 there was little difference. Since the R1800 had a gloss cartridge, one of the 8 colors, the pictures were a little less glossy, but I doubt that the casual observer would detect the difference.
I did not test the CD print function, since I do not use it, so I cannot speak for the quality of that.
If you are looking for a smart looking, compact, easy to use printer that gives your excellent color prints, and works well as a letter printer, and you do not want other functions combined into one machine like scanning, faxing, and so forth; the Artisan 50 is a good choice.
I am not pushing Epson products, but I generally use the paper and ink of the same brand as the printer, so the comments I made are based on prints made on Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper with Epson ink cartridges.

Hey, I just purchased this printer, haven't received it yet. But I want to know which CDs I should get. I'm a graphic designer aand want to print my logo and other info onto the CD. Any suggestions?
Artisan 50 Review February 12, 2010 Samuel Tolbert I received the printer and it worked well with one exception. The CYAN cartridge showed 99% used? Luckily I had a new cartridge from my other Epson printer it its working fine with no problems. Good priner for the price I paid and the ability to print on CD's makes this a must have product.
Best printer for the money February 12, 2010 C Photo (Georgia) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We print thousands of borderless 8x10's, 5x7's, and 4x6's with this printer. the color are true and the prints on glossy epson paper are spot on. We don't use the color fix in the printer options though. We do the color corections our self and just send to the printer as is.Would recconmend this printer. It uses the same ink as the Epson 380 which we switched from when they wore out.
Nearly as awesome as previous Epson printers I've owned February 12, 2010 Stella K. Belikiewicz (Brooklyn, NY) I've always loved my Epson printers, and so far this one continues to make me glad I've stuck with Epson. The only difference between this printer and previous models I've owned is that it's been harder to get the printer's color profile to match what appears on my screen than it ever was previously with Epson printers - you can usually just use the default settings, with minor tweaks, and your printouts will look exactly how you expect them to look. But after a few minor software adjustments in Photoshop's printing dialog box, I'm pretty much satisfied with the look of my printouts.
As always, when I use Epson paper, the smoothness and crispness of the printouts is gorgeous!
